The Cameron County District Attorney's office has reportedly dismissed a murder charge against Harlingen resident Michael Freeman. Freeman was set to go to trial today for the the April 2006 murder of Pedro Ivan Santana Jr., also of Harlingen.

"We were ready for trial, but the state dismissed it," said Michael Young, Freeman's defense attorney.

The Brownsville Herald has a call into the District Attorney's office seeking comment.

Freeman had been  accused of beating Santana with a baseball bat at Santana's apartment at the 1600 block of Sam Houston. Freeman was indicted on the murder charge in June 2006.
