Police: Shooting suspect surrenders

A Brownsville man turned himself in to police in connection with a Tuesday morning shooting that left the victim in serious condition.

Eduardo Shears, 32, was arrested at 7 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Brownsville police said in a press release. His bond was set at $35,000

The shooting took place Tuesday at 4 a.m. outside a home at 1164 Chilton Dr., police said.

According to police, 27-year-old Alejandro Solis was outside drinking with a friend when they got involved in a fight with Shears and another man, said police spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique.

Investigators say sometime during the fight, Shears was ordered by his friend to shoot at Solis and fired three shots, striking the victim at least once on his right hip.

"After the shooting everyone fled, even David (Solis') friend ran away and left him lying in a pool of blood," Manrrique said. "He managed to use his cell phone and call for help"

Solis was rushed to Valley Regional Medical Center-Brownsville where he was listed in serious but stable condition, police said.
