Morning walker killed by car

Authorities continue to investigate the death of a 60-year-old woman who was struck by an automobile when she went for a morning walk.

Martina Galicia died Friday morning at Valley Regional Medical Center from the injuries sustained at the accident, which took place at near the intersection of Old Port Isabel Road and Coveway Drive, police officials said.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique, the accident took place when a 62-year-old driver became distracted while trying to fish an item from the floor of the vehicle.

As a result of the distraction, the vehicle veered hitting the curb and then striking the victim who was a regular morning walker.

As of Friday afternoon, the driver of the automobile was not charged in regards to the accident.
