Public invited to attend Memorial Illumination at Palo Alto Battlefield
The Palo Alto Battlefield National Historical Park invites the public to attend its annual Memorial Illumination weekend beginning this evening at the Resaca de la Palma Battlefield.
Friday’s activities, which include living history programs, run from 5:30-8 p.m. On Saturday, the history programs continue at 3 p.m., followed by the illumination ceremony at 5 p.m.
The event involves the lighting of 8,000 luminaries with each representing one of the soldiers who served in the opening battles of the U.S.-Mexico War in 1846.
The event is designed so visitors can participate in the ceremony. Adults are asked, but not required, to bring a grill lighter to assist with the lighting.
The event is free of charge.
