A Brownsville man has been arrested for aiming a gun at his neighbor and firing several rounds into the air inside the city limits, police said.

Ezequiel Gonzalez, 34, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and with firing a gun inside a municipality, said police spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique.

The arrest took place at approximately 10:20 p.m. Thursday when police officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Apollo Avenue in response to shots fired, Manrrique said.

"Apparently a female neighbor was driving in front of (Gonzalez's) house," Manrrique said. "He was outside with a female and upon seeing the car pointed a handgun at the neighbor and then fired repeated shots into the air."

A municipal judge set bonds on Gonzalez at $25,000.
