Dallas TE Witten will make May 24 appearance in Edinburg
Comments 0 | Recommend 0EDINBURG --- Last week it was announced that Jason Witten is coming to the Rio Grande Valley, and on Wednesday the time and place of the appearance was finalized by C.J. Cavazos, who has brought nearly 25 Dallas Cowboys players to deep South Texas.
Witten, a four-time Pro Bowl tight end, will make a public autograph appearance from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 24 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium during the National Independent Tournament hosted by the University of Texas-Pan American.
"Texas-Pan American, the (Edinburg) Coyotes and the City of Edinburg made this happen," said Cavazos, who is labeling it as a family day at the ballpark. "They saw the vision, and they made it happen. You can go out to the ballpark, watch a full day of baseball (three games), and get to meet an All-Pro tight end like Jason Witten while you're out there."
Three baseball games will be held May 24 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium, beginning at 11 a.m. UTPA closes out the action against Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Ticket prices for the autographs and photo session with Witten have not been released.
Cavazos first talked with Witten this past February in Hawaii. The deal has been in the works since - with the Dallas tight end also taking time off to be with his wife and newborn child - and became official last week, although the time and place weren't settled.
Witten has rewritten the Cowboys' record books for tight ends despite just finishing his fifth season in the NFL.
Witten is coming off his fourth Pro Bowl appearance, and hauled in 96 receptions for 1,145 yards and seven touchdowns in 2007. For his career with the Cowboys, Witten has hauled in 348 passes for 3,983 yards and 21 touchdowns.
