The Cameron County Sheriff's Department confirmed that the body of convicted attorney Ray Marchan has been found.
Deputy Chief of Gus Reyna, of the Cameron County Sheriff's Department, said the body was found at 5:15 p.m. near channels commonly known as The Fingers in Port Isabel.
The Coast Guard's South Padre Island Station received a call about 4:15 a.m. that a person had jumped off the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge. The person jumped off the highest part of the bridge, officials said.
Port Isabel Justice of the Peace Bennie Ochoa had been en route to the scene late Thursday afternoon.
This morning, Ochoa confirmed reports that Marchan was the person believed to have jumped off the bridge.
Marchan was to report to a federal prison in Fort Worth today to begin serving a 42-month sentence on racketeering charges.
The U.S. Coast Guard and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department authorities spent hours, working since the early morning hours Thursday, searching for the body.
The Brownsville Fire Department's dive team was asked to assist state and federal authorities in the search.
