After a nearly six-hour special meeting, Cameron County Commissioners voted 4 to 1 to appoint Horacio Zamora as chief of the recently re-established park police.
County Judge Carlos Cascos cast the dissenting vote, saying he didn’t think Zamora was the best qualified candidate because of his credentials.
Zamora said his experience as a local police officer, working at the District Attorney’s Office and as Precinct 1 Constable made him the right fit.
"Our goal is to get established and get ready for Spring Break," he said.
