Brownsville police are investigating an officer involved shooting that left one person dead in Southmost.

The shooting happened early this morning on the 2500 block of East Avenue near the Subway restaurant and the Brownsville Public Utilities Board sewer plant.

The officer was not injured, authorities said.

During a news conference this morning Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz said the Texas Rangers and Texas Department of Public Safety will investigate the shooting and then submit the findings to the DA's office.

Police are at the scene and have the area blocked off.
