Police at the University of Texas at Brownsville are investigating circumstances surrounding the body of an elderly man found near campus this afternoon.

The body was found around 1 p.m. at the intersection of International Boulevard and May Street.

A campus alert sent to students and staff said the incident appeared to be non-threatening, but asked that the campus community avoid the area during the investigation.

The alert said no foul play was believed to have occurred.

Brownsville police spokesman J.J. Treviño confirmed that a body had been found and said an autopsy would be ordered.
