Brownsville police arrested a woman Tuesday for biting her daughter on the cheek to punish her, according to a criminal complaint.
Claudia Elizabeth Avila, 27, was booked in the city jail Tuesday morning on a charge of injury to a child.
The complaint alleges Avila bit her 10-year-old daughter on the cheek and finger last week, causing bruising and bite marks on the girl's body. She was trying to discipline her daughter, the complaint said.
Police responded to the residence on Pino Verde Drive, off Arroyo Boulevard, after someone reported the incident to Child Protective Services, Brownsville Police spokesman J.J. Trevino said.
Trevino said a judge set bail at $5,000. Jail records show Avila posted the bail.
