Little Houston girl killed in carjacking attempt

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston police say an attempted carjacking and shooting at an apartment complex left a 4-year-old girl dead and her toddler brother injured.

Houston police Sgt. J.J. Wilson told The Associated Press that the search continued Monday for the gunman.

Police are investigating whether the vehicle was targeted for its expensive custom rims.

Police say an armed man Sunday afternoon confronted the father, who was with his wife and two children, as the family got into the vehicle.

Sgt. John Roberts says the father was confused and at first thought the gunman was joking. Shots were fired before the father could hand over the keys.

The name of the slain girl was not immediately released. Further details on injuries to her year-old brother were not immediately available.
