Soldier's body returns home
Comments 0 | Recommend 0MISSION - Well-wishers lined the streets for more than 45 minutes, waiting for the body of Spc. Alex Gonzalez to arrive at the Virgil Wilson Funeral Home on Conway Avenue.
He arrived at McAllen-Miller International Airport at 10:07 a.m., but the procession took a detour past his Mission home before heading for the funeral home.
The 21-year-old explosives expert for the U.S. Army was killed by a rocket propelled grenade in Iraq on May 6.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday with a public Mass at noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a ceremony at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m.
