Mourner stabbed at Donna funeral home
Comments 0 | Recommend 0DONNA - A jealous boyfriend allegedly stabbed a man at a local funeral home Monday night, apparently upset his rival showed up to pay his respects with other mourners.
Donna Police Chief Ruben "Ram" De Leon said the suspect, whose name was not released, stabbed the victim three to five times in the back at about 8:30 p.m. at Hawkins Funeral Home on Salinas Boulevard off Expressway 83. The suspect is the boyfriend of a woman who attended a wake at the funeral home, and the victim is her ex-boyfriend, De Leon said.
The victim was transported to McAllen Medical Center, where he was recovering late Monday. His condition wasn't immediately known.
The alleged attacker is in custody and will likely be arraigned on attempted murder charges Tuesday afternoon, De Leon said.
Rick Hawkins, who owns the funeral home, said he didn't know much about the attack. He was not at the funeral home when it occurred.
"It all happened so quick, and then it was over," Hawkins said he heard from those at the wake.
