Harlingen mayor's office burglarized
HARLINGEN — Mayor Chris Boswell has found himself the victim of the second break-in within one year.
On Thursday night, the mayor’s law office on East Harrison and two other offices on the same block were burglarized, Boswell confirmed Saturday afternoon.
In July, Boswell’s home was burglarized and later two teenagers were arrested for the offense.
Boswell called it a "weird coincidence" that both his home and office had been burglarized in a year’s time.
Police Lt. Miriam Anderson said Friday that police records showed that in this incident two firearms were missing from the office.
Two pistols and two vintage Boy Scout knives were taken from the office, but minimal damage was done, Boswell said, adding that the pistols were not his, but the knives did belong to him.
Boswell shares his office with two attorneys: a former business partner and his current partner.
The woman who cleans Boswell’s law office came in early Friday morning and discovered that there had been a break-in and called the Harlingen Police Department, Boswell said.
According to police records, the woman realized that cabinets had been rummaged through and she wanted officers to inspect the rest of the building with her.
When officers walked through the office they realized a burglary had occurred and called detectives to dust for prints.
The police department said no arrests have been made and Boswell said the incident is still under investigation.
