Former elementary school employee accused of touching students
LA JOYA -- A former computer lab proctor is accused of touching at least 10 elementary students' private parts in exchange for candy.
Armando Gutierrez, 35, was charged Thursday with 10 counts of indecency with a child, a second degree felony that could send him to prison for 20 years if convicted.
Police identified at least 10 first grade students at Clinton Elementary School who told their parents that Gutierrez had touched their private parts in exchange for candy in May 2008, said Raul Gonzalez, police chief for the La Joya school district.
Justice of the Peace Ismael "Melo" Ochoa set Gutierrez's bond at $2.5 million for the 10 felony counts. Additional charges may be brought against Gutierrez, as well, Gonzalez said.
Gutierrez was working as a computer lab proctor during the alleged incidents, Gonzalez said. He no longer works for the district.
