Man fires handgun at 13-year-old
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Police arrested a Brownsville man accused of firing a .22 caliber handgun at his neighbor, a 13-year-old boy, officials said.
Carlos Gonzalez, 35, was arrested Saturday night at the 700 block of St. James St and later charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm inside Brownsville city limits, said police spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique.
On Sunday morning, Gonzalez went before a municipal judge who set his bond at $21,000 and released him after he posted bond.
The arrest took place when police officers responded to a call of shots fired, Manrrique said.
"Apparently Gonzalez, had become upset because according to him, the grandfather of the victim (13-yer-old) had been hitting on his 13-year-old daughter," the spokesman said.
Gonzalez walked up to the teen and began arguing telling him to keep his grandfather away from the Gonzalez’s daughter, Manrrique said.
The argument heated and Gonzalez pulled out a .22 caliber handgun firing three to four shots over the boy’s head, the spokesman said.
The teen was not injured and ran inside his home to call police.
Responding officers found two shell casings and determined that Gonzalez had fired the handgun, Manrrique said.
