BISD looks at Gonzales
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The BISD school board was still deliberating personnel issues at a late hour on Tuesday including an evaluation of Superintendent Hector Gonzales.
The Brownsville Independent School District Board of Trustees evaluated Gonzales just two months ago giving him generally a positive evaluation and a $20,000 raise.
Tuesday night's evaluation came at the request of Trustee Joe Colunga, who said he simply wanted to make final comments on Gonzales' Sept. 23 evaluation. Still, about 10 community members addressed the board during public audience telling the trustees that they want Gonzales to stay on the job.
One, Perla Mora, addressed the board in Spanish making an eloquent case for the superintendent and giving him credit for her daughter's success at Rivera High School and now at MIT.
The Sept. 23 evaluation came after BISD was named a finalist for the Broad Prize for Urban Education.
