Man accused of sexually assaulting young girls
A 36-year-old Brownsville man was arrested Thursday by Brownsville police detectives on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child.
Manuel Zapata faces two counts of indecency with a child and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, police spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique said.
“Zapata is accused of molesting two young girls under the age of 10 since August 2006,” he said. “The young girls made an outcry to their babysitter, who in turn reported the girls secret to their mother, who then called police.”
He is being held at the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito in lieu of $200,000 in bonds.
It is the Brownsville Herald's policy not to identify victims of alleged sexual assault.
