Rep. Kino Flores under investigation
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Travis County prosecutors are investigating State Rep. Kino Flores, D-Palmview, for taking discounted airfare from campaign contributors, his attorney confirmed Friday.
"They have made inquiries and I'm cooperating," attorney Roy Q. Minton said. "He's never accepted free travel from anyone."
At issue is whether Flores adequately reimbursed the LaMantia family, who own a Budweiser distributorship in South Texas and are developing a $23 million horse racetrack in Hidalgo County.
Flores is chairman of the House committee that oversees gambling legislation.
Minton denied reports that his client will resign his position in the state Legislature or accept a plea deal from prosecutors any time soon.
"He ain't resigning," he said. "He ain't doing anything. From everything I'm hearing, nothing illegal occurred."
