Fire at Brownsville elementary school
A fire broke out inside a Brownsville school just before noon today.
The Brownsville Fire Department responded to the blaze in the parent center building at Russell Elementary in the 800 block of Lakeside Boulevard, said Assistant Fire Chief Randy Russel.
"There were no injuries, no property damage, everyone was evacuated, they are all okay," Russel said.
Firefighters extinguished the fire in one of the building’s air conditioning units. The fire reportedly started when a major electrical short occurred at the school causing the A/C unit to catch fire.
"Right now PUB is working on removing some of the wires and working on the situation," Russel said.
BISD spokeswoman Drue Brown says the parent center building is not used by students.
