Festivals showcase BISD talent
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A series of fine arts festivals is scheduled this week at Jacob Brown Auditorium that will showcase the talent of BISD high school and middle school students.
Each of the five clusters in the Brownsville Independent School District will present a choreographed multi-media extravaganza including high school and middle school bands and choirs, theater and visual arts, and estudiantina and dance groups.
"These shows are a true integrtion of the fine arts," said Rebecca Rendon, administrator of BISD's fine arts department. "The purpose is to expose the community to the incredible talent we have and to show how you can integrate all of the areas of the arts into one performance."
Each performance features a student art show in the foyer, followed by performances by the bands and choirs, theater, estudiantina and dance groups for each of the cluster's middle schools and high school.
A grand finale follows, in which everyone performs together, Rendon said.
"It's a really special event," she said. "You will see every area of the arts represented."
Each show begins at 7 p.m., with a preceding art reception at 6 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
The Rivera cluster goes first, followed by Hanna, Porter, Lopez and Pace.
