Commissioners to vote on impact fee increase
Comments 0 | Recommend 0There will be a second and final reading on adopting an increase to the impact fees charged developers to offset the cost of extending infrastructure to development this evening.
Commissioner will then vote whether to adopt the increase.
The commission's regular meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1001 E. Elizabeth St.
Prior to the regular session, however, the commission will hold a workshop at 4:55 p.m. to hear a presentation from the Healthy Communities of Brownsville and an executive session at 5:05 p.m.
The gathering behind closed doors will be to discuss a collective bargaining agreement with the Brownsville Police Officers Association, issues dealing with annexation and the proposed agreement with the American Eagle airline.
The present impact fee of $280 has been in place since 1990, but at a March 25 meeting, the commission's majority voted to adopt a fee of $2,600 per lot, down from the maximum allowable of $3,486 identified through Brownsville Public Utilities Board study.
A second vote is required in order for the proposed fee to take effect. The commissioners that voted for the fee in March were Anthony Troiani, Leo Garza, Carlos Cisneros and Edward Camarillo. Mayor Pat M. Ahumada Jr. and Commission Charlie Atkinson support the $3,486 fee.
Commissioner Ricardo Longoria made an exit from the commission's March meeting just before the vote.
Other items on the agenda include appointments to the Brownsville Citizen's Advisory Committee.
The commission also will be asked to award a contract for the purchase of 11 motorcycles for the police department.
The awarding of a contract for paving and drainage improvements at Rustic Manor Drive also is on the agenda.
