Brownsville lawyer accused of assault
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A Brownsville attorney is free on bond after being arrested over the weekend on charges of assault and resisting arrest.
Veronica Farias, 46, was arrested at about 5:32 p.m. Sunday after police received an emergency call from her residence, in the 3400 block of Burgundy Court, police said.
The call came is as a domestic disturbance, they said.
When police arrived at the home, they contacted Darryl Woods, Farias' husband, who said she had assaulted him.
The responding officers noticed "visible injury" on Woods and arrested Farias, police said.
She reportedly resisted arrest while being placed into custody.
Municipal Judge Phil Bellamy, arraigned Farias Sunday and set a $2,500 personal recognizance bond on both charges.
Teens charged with ‘tagging' church
Police arrested two Brownsville teenagers who were accused of "tagging" a local church.
Angel Esquivel, 18, and Jose Manuel Cavazos, 17, are each charged with one count of graffiti on a church and evading arrest. A $2,500 bond was set on each.
The two were arrested early Sunday morning after a citizen reported seeing a group of young men spray-painting a building at Immaculate Conception Church, 700 E. 12th St., police said.
As the police arrived at the church, the group scattered. Officers were able to catch two of the teens who said they were running "because they had just tagged the church."
