Border Patrol agent convicted of making false statments
McALLEN - A former U.S. Border Patrol agent was convicted of making a false statement after he failed to record a cocaine seizure that he made, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced today.
Juan C. Espinoza, 31, of Edinburg, pleaded guilty to making a false statements at a hearing today in federal court in McAllen.
Espinoza resigned in May after a U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigation revealed he had allegedly failed to report drug seizures that he had made.
The crime carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Espinoza's sentencing is set for September.
