BPUB offers energy efficiency rebate

The Brownsville Public Utilities Board is now offering a rebate of up to $600 for BPUB electric customers who install a qualifying energy-efficient heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

Eddie Campirano Jr., energy efficiency and conservation coordinator for BPUB, said the rebates are meant to encourage the installation of energy-efficient systems in existing homes as well as in new construction.

The U.S. Department of Energy says energy-efficient systems use up to 40 percent less electricity than older models. Not only does the program help homeowners and small business owners cut their electric bills, Campirano said, but reducing energy consumption during peak demands means less need for power plants to add more capacity.

For complete information on qualifying for the rebate, call BPUB at 983-6242 or email ggreenrebate@brownsville-pub.com.
