Elections today in Cameron County
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Both seasoned candidates and newcomers square off today for a series of elections that will guide the Brownsville Navigation District, the Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees, Los Fresnos School Board, the town of Rancho Viejo and its municipal utility district over the next several years.
Polls for today's elections open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
Except for Rancho Viejo, which conducts its own elections, Cameron County is handling the contests.
Candidates for BND Place 1 are Eliceo "Cheo" Muñoz and Ralph Cowen; Place 3 candidates are John Reed and Don DeLeon; and Place 5 candidate Sergio Tito Lopez, who is unopposed.
TSC Place 1 candidates are Jose Angel Herrera Jr., Jaime Silva and Adela Garza, while Place 2 candidates are Tita Esparza Tamez and Rene Torres.
Los Fresnos School Board Place 3 candidates include Ray Farias, James H. Guajardo and Place 4 candidates are Cynthia Treviño-Burns, Armin Argullin and Jesus Amaya.
Elections are also being held in the town of Rancho Viejo for three at-large alderman seats. The candidates are Ray Downs, Roberto Medrano, John Dunkel, Diane Elder Garza and William Dorsett.
A second election also is underway for director of the Valley Municipal Utility District. Three candidates - Richard Lindemann, Roger Nelson and Lupita Carr - are on the ballot for the post.
