NEAR DONNA — Two teenagers died after their car rolled over twice north of Donna early Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred about 1 a.m. near the intersection of Golie and Earling roads, said Trooper Johnny Hernandez, a local spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Three teens were traveling south on Golie Road in a 1994 Cadillac DeVille when the driver apparently lost control and the car rolled over twice, Hernandez said. The crash threw one man from the vehicle and pinned another one beneath it, killing them both.

The two fatalities were the car’s driver, Gabriel Arguelles Jr., 19, of Donna, and Ricardo Elmedo, 17, of Alamo.

The vehicle’s third occupant, a 17-year-old boy from Donna, remained at McAllen Medical Center with a broken leg Wednesday afternoon.

None of the three teens was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Hernandez said.

Troopers continue to investigate what caused the rollover and whether Arguelles was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Memorial Funeral Home in Edinburg is handling his funeral arrangements.
