STAMP deadline Friday
Friday is the deadline to apply for admission to the Brownsville Independent School District’s newest school, the STAMP College Preparatory Program at Veterans Memorial High School.
The school within a school opens in August. Current eighth- and ninth-grade students are eligible to apply.
Michelle A. Seney was named the administrator for STAMP in December. STAMP is an acronym for Science, Technology, Architecture and Medical Professions. The new school will focus on those areas, combining the existing medical professions magnet school at Hanna High School, the engineering magnet at Porter and the architecture magnet at Veterans Memorial.
Additionally, the STAMP will offer Advanced Placement and dual enrollment curriculum in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math, enabling graduates to obtain as many as 60 college credit hours along with their high school diploma by the time they graduate.
BISD also is promoting STAMP as a first-rate college model with expanded 21st century learning opportunities including strong partnerships with top-tier universities and educational foundations, extensive job-shadowing and internships, unlimited options to earn medical, science, technology and related certifications, and access to cutting-edge technology and medical equipment.
Also, STAMP students will enjoy a fully inclusive high school experience with access to traditional activities such as competitive athletics and enhanced fine arts. Veterans Memorial High School is a $62.6 million campus on Brownsville’s western edge that opened in 2010 and gives every appearance of being a small college campus.
Current BISD students should submit their completed applications to their respective counselors. Applications for students outside BISD should be delivered to Berta Peña, assistant superintendent for Support Services, Suite 207, BISD Administration Building, 1900 Price Road.
