Two county employees charged with assault
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Two Cameron County employees have been released from a county jail after allegedly assaulting a man with a baseball bat.
Lucino Rosenbaum III, 32, and Ivan De Jesus Guerra, 26, were arrested Tuesday on separate second-degree felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to court documents.
Justice of the Peace Tony Torres arraigned the two on the charges and set their respective bonds at $20,000.
They were booked and released Tuesday morning from the Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito after posting bond, Sheriff Omar Lucio said.
Both men are accused of beating Antonio Alarcon with a metal baseball bat on April 28 at an arcade on Paloma Blanca Drive and Maverick Road in the Southmost area. Alarcon was hospitalized that night at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville after sustaining multiple injuries.
The "victim stated to deputy Jorge Coria that he ... was approached by (Rosenbaum) and assaulted with the bat, striking him on top of his head (and) causing him to get disoriented," an affidavit states. Alarcon began bleeding severely.
Alarcon met with detective Victor Alvarado on April 30 and provided a statement to him.
Alarcon also claimed that Guerra kicked him in the chest, face, head and back.
Rosenbaum and Guerra are employed in County Clerk Joe Rivera's office as clerks. Rivera did not return calls for comment Tuesday.
The county's Human Resources Director Manuel Villarreal directed questions to Rivera, and said he did not know Rosenbaum and Guerra's employment status with the county.
Public records show that Rosenbaum has been arrested several times and pleaded guilty to separate charges of aggravated assault in 1994 and 1995. He was sentenced to one year in state prison for the 1994 incident and 41 months for the 1995 incident, according to court documents.
Guerra has no record, public records show.
