Funnel clouds, hail spotted in Hidalgo County

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

The National Weather Service is reporting that several funnel clouds have been spotted north of Edinburg in Red Gate and in Pharr.

Quarter-sized hail was reported from Mission as well as deadly lightning in Palmhurst, said Joseph Tomaselli, a meteorologist with the weather service in Brownsville.

In Mission, the storm toppled trees over and caused minor street flooding.

The weather service has lifted a tornado warning for northern Hidalgo County and Brooks County, where funnel clouds were reported earlier in the evening, but warned that tornados can appear with no warning during severe thunderstorms.

A flood warning has also been issued for southern Hidalgo County until 9:45 p.m. Affected areas have rainfall rates of two inches per hour.
