College and University Night tonight
The Brownsville Independent School District will hold its annual College and University Night beginning at 6:30 p.m. today at the Central Administration Building, 708 Palm Blvd.
BISD will have representatives at the event from at least 15 local organizations to distribute information on scholarship opportunities.
Additionally, 18 university and college representatives will be there to talk to students and their parents about college requirements, financial aid and other concerns, the district said.
During the day Thursday, BISD students and employees are being urged to show their support for higher education by wearing appropriate shirts from their favorite college or university to their school or work site.
College and University Night will begin with a presentation in the CAB auditorium on how to obtain financial aid — including information on the new IRS Retrieval Tool, which is designed to simplify completion of the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
The tool will allow applicants using FAFSA on the Web to request and retrieve their income and tax data from the Internal Revenue Service.
Also, information will be available on locating and applying for scholarships. In addition, the United Way of Southern Cameron County will have free income tax services available. There also will be a drawing for several $250 scholarships.
