Mosquito spraying under way

The City of Brownsville will begin spraying for mosquitoes after Hurricane Dolly dumped several inches of rain throughout the city. Some areas will be sprayed from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., while others will be sprayed from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Here is breakdown of the spraying schedule for this morning: Impala, Manzano, Morningside, La Posada, McDavitt, Owens, Avenida de la Plata, Portway Acres and Fruitdale.

Tonight the following areas will be sprayed: The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, the Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport, Riverside, Galaxia, Amigoland, Gladys Porter Zoo, East Harrison, Arbor Park and the Brownsville Country Club.

On Wednesday morning the spraying will resume in the following neighborhoods: Rey Jorge, Town North, Paredes Elementary, Stell Middle School, Lantana, Hidden Valley, Lakeside Boulevard, Rio Viejo Subdivision, Alta Mesa and Stillman Road.

Wednesday night city crews will spray Western Boulevard, Pace High School, Honeydale, Eagle Drive, Creekbend, Seagull Drive, Avelardo Drive, El Paraiso, Rivera High School and Rio Del Sol.

Officials say the entire city will be sprayed over the two-day period and if necessary they will spray the city a second time or as the demand is needed.

Homeowners can do their part to eliminate mosquitoes by getting rid of standing water in flower pots, buckets, old tires and any other containers around the house.
