Assistant band director from Harlingen in jail on child pornography charges
Comments 0 | Recommend 0An assistant band director at PSJA Memorial High School remains behind bars on charges of possessing and promoting child pornography.
Eduardo Mendez, 35, of Harlingen, was arrested at the high school Thursday afternoon and charged with one count each of possession and promotion of child pornography, according to the Cameron County District Attorney's office.
Police also searched Mendez's home and seized two computers. According to a statement the district attorney's office released, police found 18 images of child pornography and 37 images of child erotica.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement's cyber-crimes division conducted the initial investigation. Cameron County is prosecuting the case because the alleged incident happened at Mendez's home in Harlingen, said Jason Moody, spokesman of the district attorney's office.
An Hidalgo County judge set Mendez's bond at $200,000 -- $100,000 for each charge, Moody said.
Mendez was transferred to Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito where he remained as of this morning.
