BND to canvass election results Wednesday

The Brownsville Navigation District board is poised to meet Wednesday to canvass the May 11 election returns and seat three new commissioners.

 

The Cameron County Elections Department was tabulating a handful of ballots from voters in the military overseas and provisional ballots with the results expected to available by Monday. County staff also continued Friday with attempts to determine the number of ballots cast in this election.

 

The BND board meets at 5:30 p.m. at administrative offices located at 1000 Foust Road to canvass election returns.

 

Items on the agenda for the board meeting include issuing the certificates of election to the new commissioners Ralph Cowen, John Reed and Sergio Tito Lopez.

 

Administering them the oath of office was next on the agenda followed by the election of new board officers.

 

The three new commissioners join present Chairman Martin C. Arambula, and Secretary Carlos Masso.

 

The outgoing commissioners are Peter M. Zavaletta, Roy de los Santos, and Luigi Cristiano.

 

The Texas Southmost College board of trustees scheduled a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. Monday to canvass its election returns and set the date for the runoff election for the Place 1 seat on the board.
