"Let’s Clean Up Brownsville" is the theme for a fall cleanup and Texas Recycles Day on Sat., Nov. 14, at the city’s recycling center, 308 E. Elizabeth St.
Registration is at 7:30 a.m., with the clean up scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Following the cleanup, there will be a hot dog cook off.
City Commissioner Edward C. Camarillo said he hopes to see as many as 500 volunteers turn out for the event, which is co-sponsored by the city, ESD Recycling, H-E-B, Healthy Communities of Brownsville, Keep Texas Beautiful and Bags R
5.
Camarillo said trash bags and gloves would be provided as well as transportation to assigned sites. He adds that Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be stationed outside H-E-B and Walmart stores giving out city reusable bags. Camarillo also said that there will be tours of recycling centers, guest speakers and information booths.
"That day is also significant because we will launch the city’s first 24-hour, seven-day-a-week recycling container at the recycling center. This means that anyone wishing to recycle can do so at any hour of any day," Camarillo said.
Anyone wishing additional information is asked to call Hilario de Leon at the city Public Works Department, (956) 547-6582.
