Commandante: Person of interest wanted in Horn murder detained in Matamoros
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Mexican authorites confirmed they have detained a 19-year-old man who is considered a person of interest in the murder of Barry Horn, the executive director of the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art.
An official with Policia Ministerial of Matamoros, says Ernesto Ivan Martinez was detained Sunday after his department received information from Brownsville police that Martinez was thought to be in the Mexican border town.
However, officials declined to comment on the arrest saying they do not want to jeopardize the American investigation.
"We are collaborating with American authorities," said Lic. Guadalupe Zavala Cisneros, the head of investigations of the Policia Ministerial. "This is a very delicate situation."
Horn, 59, was found dead in his west Brownsville home at 1400 Flor de Mayo Saturday afternoon. Police said he'd been stabbed to death and evidence indicates there was an apparent struggle between Horn and his killer.
His body was discovered by a co-worker when Horn failed to show up at the BMFA in preparation for Saturday night's fundraising gala.
Investigators say Horn's grey 2008 Hyundai Sonata with Texas license plates JWM 350 was missing from his home as were several other personal items.
Police say Martinez had lived with Horn until they had a falling out. They also believe Martinez took Horn's car.
