Border Patrol pulls over minivan with more than 350 pounds of marijuana
The U.S. Border Patrol has arrested a man accused of smuggling more than 350 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
Miguel Castillo was arrested Saturday afternoon by the Rio Grande levee near U.S. Highway 281. He was later charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, records show.
On Monday morning, Castillo went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Felix Recio who ordered he be held without bond pending a detention hearing on Thursday.
The seizure took place when Border Patrols agents patrolling the river spotted several men running away from the levee carrying large bundles, USBP said.
An agent operating surveillance camera recorded the men loading the bundles into a maroon minivan parked along U.S. 281, records show.
Border Patrol agents pulled over the minivan that was driven by Castillo and found six bundles containing more than 350 pounds of marijuana, USBP said.
