PUB parties huddle in court
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Attorneys for current and former Brownsville Public Utilities Board trustees met behind closed doors Wednesday, attempting to iron out their differences.
Recently appointed board member Emmanuel Vasquez filed suit, alleging a board majority interfered with his duties when they failed to seat him at the Oct. 18 board meeting. Vasquez is claiming this violated the Texas Open Meetings Act.
Mayor Pat Ahumada Jr., and other named defendants say they blocked his participation in the meeting because ex-member Cris Valadez’ term did expired for several days.
State district Judge Janet Leal will hear the case that names PUB, Ahumada, Valadez, board Chairman Robert Sanchez, and for-mer member Dr. Joseph Zavaletta, if the two sides cannot come to an agreement.
The court is in recess until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
