Two charged for stealing from attorney's office
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A 33-year-old man and woman were arrested Tuesday on charges of theft after the duo allegedly took a purse with cash from a local attorney's office.
Jose Guadalupe Orduno and Ofelia Garza Gonzalez were charged with separate counts of theft, a state jail felony, police Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique said.
"(Both) were arrested after they stole a black purse from an employee at an attorney's office they were visiting," he said. "Both subjects were arrested after the employee noticed her purse missing and suspected the couple, who had just been in her office."
The victim was able to recover her purse after she found out Gonzalez worked at a local H-E-B, according to police reports.
"The recovery of her purse came after the victim and her sister tracked down the Gonzalez at her place of work at (an) H-E-B," Manrrique said. "She had already stashed the purse in her boyfriend's car.
The victim told police detectives about $15,600.00 in cash were stolen from her purse.
Bonds for Orduno and Gonzalez were set at $10,000 each.
Suspected smugglers arrested at bridge with crystal meth
U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested two women late last week on charges of attempting to cross crystal methamphetamine into the United States.
CBP agents working at the Gateway International Bridge reported seizing close to 38 pounds of crystal meth Thursday with a street value of $573,000, said Nina Pruneda, a spokeswoman with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
At 4:15 p.m., CBP agents arrested Blanca Estella Garcia, 29, and Nina Salazar, 19, on federal drug charges, she said.
Both women, who are U.S. citizens from Americus, Ga., were traveling in a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck when they attempted to enter the U.S.
"Garcia was accompanied by Salazar and three young children," Pruneda said. "After a primary examination, Garcia, Salazar, (the) children and vehicle were referred to secondary for an intensive examination."
While the pickup truck was being searched by narcotics K-9 Cisco, "it alerted CPB agents to its gas tank. "
CPB agents discovered a compartment within the gas tank and removed three packages of methamphetamine.
The women were turned over the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for processing. The pickup truck was impounded.
The three children were transferred to the custody of Child Protective Services.
