District Attorney's Office to hold seminar on Hot Checks and White Collar Crime

The Brownsville Herald

The Cameron County District Attorney's Division of Hot Checks and White Collar Crime will hold a business seminar addressing both issues on Friday.

The seminar will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Municipal Complex in the Commissioners' Board Room, 115 E. Commercial Ave. in La Feria.

The District Attorney's Office will visit several cities in Cameron County and will be available for merchants who have questions about what to do in the event of receiving a hot check, authorities said.

"La Feria will be our first stop in the County, and we anticipate continuing to provide information to the community regarding criminal activity of hot checks and white collar crime," said District Attorney Armando Villalobos in a press release.

"We are coordinating our efforts with municipalities and their business community to be available and answer questions that merchants may have."

State law allows the district attorney's office to collect, prosecute and require an additional fee from hot check writers, at no expense to the taxpayer.

For more information, contact the Cameron County District Attorney's Office Hot Check Division at (956) 546-1981.
