Kidnapping suspect arrested at international bridge

A Mexican national wanted for kidnapping in Florida was arrested trying to cross into the U.S.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Veterans' International Bridge stopped Epifanio Muniz, 30, of Plant City, Florida as he crossed the bridge Sunday.

During questioning officers learned there was an outstanding arrest warrant for Muniz in Florida where he was wanted for kidnapping.

“Use of a national database by our frontline officers has been successful once again; this wanted fugitive has been charged with a kidnapping in Florida," said Michael Freeman, CBP Port Director, Brownsville Port of Entry.

CBP officers arrested Muniz and turned him over to the Cameron County Sherriff’s Office. He remains jailed without bond at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending extradition to Florida.
