Mexican army seizes weapons and drugs
Mexican Army soldiers with the 10th Regiment Motorized Cavalry seized drugs and weapons Sunday afternoon during a routine patrol through the streets of Matamoros.
The seizure took place while patrolling M. Espinoza and Plan de Ayutla streets in the Euzkadi neighborhood when the soldiers came across an unlocked abandoned automobile with the keys in the ignition, an agency press release stated.
Suspecting some type of emergency, the soldiers checked the vehicle and came across a package of unspecified weight containing marijuana, four assault rifles, two submachine guns, more than 2,000 rounds of ammunitions and 24 cartridges, the army said.
The soldiers seized the vehicle and also found three radio systems with chargers, as well as two army type uniforms, and a tactical vest.
Even though there were no arrests were made in the seizure, the Army turned over the items to federal agencies for further investigation.
