Rendon wins in unofficial results
The two candidates in the run-off election for a TSC Board of Trustees seat spent Saturday doing some last minute campaigning. As voters headed to the polls on Saturday to cast ballots in the race between incumbent Rosemary Breedlove and Francisco "Kiko" Rendon, supporters of the candidates were working phone banks reminding registered voters to get out and vote. As the polls closed at 7 p.m. and the early votes were counted, it appeared Rendon had defeated Breedlove– 2,120 versus 1,554 respectively, unofficial election results indicated. In the week of early voting held from June 1 through June 8, 2,523 early votes were cast in the election, according to the Cameron County Elections and Voter Registration Department. Breedlove, a registered nurse and the owner of the Chachalaca Inn in Los Fresnos, has been on the Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees for 12 years. Rendon, a construction project manager who lives in Brownsville has never served on the board. The two candidates faced Rene Coronado in the May 8 election, but none managed to receive 50 plus one percent of the votes to avoid a run-off election.
