Mayor Ahumada to be arraigned next week
Mayor Pat M. Ahumada Jr. is slated to appear before state District Judge Benjamin Euresti Jr. next week to plead guilty or not guilty to the criminal charges that a Cameron County grand jury leveled against him Thursday, March 26.
Ahumada is charged in a three-count indictment with felony offenses of abuse of official capacity, misapplication of fiduciary property and theft.
His arraignment has been set for 1 p.m., April 8.
The charges stem from a $26,139 check that the city issued in Oct. 22 to a New York vendor, but that was deposited in Ahumada's business bank account on Oct. 28.
