Attempted kidnapping in Juarez, gunfire in Matamoros
An attempt was made to kidnap an agent of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, in broad daylight Thursday morning, according to a source close to law enforcement.
The agent was able to avert the kidnapping, and no injuries were reported, the source said.
The information reaching the Herald is that the aggressors attempted to block the DEA agent’s vehicle with their vehicles. There could have been as many as three vehicles involved.
The Herald contacted the DEA office in El Paso, and an agent there would neither confirm nor deny the report. She referred questions to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico. Attempts to contact the embassy for comment were not successful.
Closer to home, sources familiar with events in Matamoros reported that there was gunfire near the city’s public security department. No other details were available.
