Jury selection set in strippers shooting death
BY ANTHONY CASKEY
The Brownsville Herald
Jury selection in the murder trial of Jesus Chuy Sanchez is scheduled to
begin Monday.
Sanchez is being accused in the shooting death of Veronica Casarez in June of
2001. Casarez, an exotic dancer, was shot while at work at the Camichin III
Night Club on Central Boulevard.
Witnesses have allegedly identified Sanchez as the gunman at the topless club
on the night of the shooting.
He and Casarez are said to have spoken just before she was shot multiple times
in the mid-section with a large semi-automatic pistol.
According to police, Sanchez fled to Florida in the days following the
shooting and was apprehended by Sheriffs deputies in Collier County, Fla.
He was arrested on Sept. 3, 2001 in a Baymont Inn in East Naples.
Officials credit a CrimeStoppers tip for the apprehension.
If convicted, Sanchez could face 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
