Man accused of raping bedridden, elderly woman

A 38-year-old man remains behind bars at a Cameron County jail after he was arrested Friday night for allegedly raping a bedridden, elderly woman.

Jose Antonio Vallejo-Limon claimed to be helping the 72-year-old woman’s husband build a wooden step outside the front of their home and cook menudo, said Brownsville police spokesman Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique.

Police responded to a call at about 10:20 p.m. from the woman’ s husband, who said he had walked in on Vallejo-Limon raping his wife in their bedroom, Manrrique said.

The 74-year-old man "physically struggled with the suspect who got away and fled to his home," Manrrique said. "(Vallejo-Limon) was arrested at his home at 814 'D' Street."

He was charged with a first-degree felony and given a $100,000 bond. Police are still investigating Vallejo-Limon’s relationship with the elderly couple.
