Thousands turn out for early voting
The May 12 election for mayor and four commissioners has drawn several thousand voters to the early voting polls.
A total of 3,580 early votes were cast in the races, far surpassing the 2,490 early votes cast in the 2003 race.
City voters will go to the polls on Saturday and candidates are cautioning everyone to review their polling places because numerous precinct polls have been consolidated from 22 in past elections to 16 this year.
The last day of early voting brought 927 votes, roughly three times the turnout for most days of early voting.
All in all, the eight days of early voting brought the highest turnout at the Brownsville Public Library with 1,198 votes, followed by 834 votes at the Brownsville Independent School District administration building.
