Man points shotgun at repo men
Brownsville police have arrested a local man who pointed a shotgun at two repo men, who were just doing their jobs, said police spokesman Lt. Orlando Rodriguez.
Antonio Meza Jr., 53, was arrested Wednesday at approximately 11 a.m. and then charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Rodriguez said.
On Thursday morning, Meza went before a municipal judge who set his bond at $15,000 per count.
The arrest took place when two brothers working for a repossession company drove their tow truck to a house at 1105 Millum Ave. to repossess a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado for non-payment, Rodriguez said.
"When they tried to take the truck they noticed that the axle of the truck was tied up to a tree-trunk," the spokesman said.
As the two brothers were trying to get the truck loose, Meza came out of the residence and told them to get off his property or he would "get his gun and shoot them," before walking back inside the house, Rodriguez said.
Meza then walked out onto a balcony carrying a black shotgun and aimed it down at the repo men, police said.
"Fearing for their safety, they went back into their tow truck and parked a few houses down to call police," Rodriguez said. "Then they saw Meza come out of the house, unchain the truck and drive off at a high rate of speed down Austin Road."
Police officers responding to the call spotted the truck and were able to stop it, in the 5200 block of Coffee Port Road. They then arrested Meza, the spokesman said.
Even if Meza hadn’t pointed the gun at the two men, he could have faced charges for interfering with the repossession effort, Rodriguez said.
